50 things the Holy Spirit does

50 things the Holy Spirit does

1. The Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8).
2. The Spirit guides us into all truth (John 16:13).
3. The Spirit regenerates us (John 3:5-8; Titus 3:5).
4. The Spirit glorifies and testifies of Christ (John 15:26; 16:14).
5. The Spirit reveals Christ to us and in us (John 16:14-15).
6. The Spirit leads us (Rom. 8:14; Gal. 5:18; Matt. 4:1; Luke 4:1).
7. The Spirit sanctifies us (2 Thess. 2:13; 1 Pet. 1:2; Rom. 5:16).
8. The Spirit empowers us (Luke 4:14; 24:49; Rom. 15:19; Acts 1:8).
9. The Spirit fills us (Eph. 5:18; Acts 2:4; 4:8, 31; 9:17).
10. The Spirit teaches us to pray (Rom. 8:26-27; Jude 1:20).
11. The Spirit bears witness in us that we are children of God (Rom. 8:16).
12. The Spirit produces in us the fruit or evidence of His work and presence (Gal. 5:22-23).
13. The Spirit distributes spiritual gifts and manifestations (the outshining) of His presence to and through the body (1 Cor. 12:4, 8-10; Heb. 2:4).
14. The Spirit anoints us for ministry (Luke 4:18; Acts 10:38).
15. The Spirit washes and renews us (Titus 3:5).
16. The Spirit brings unity and oneness to the body (Eph. 4:3; 2:14-18). Here the Spirit plays the same role that He plays in the Godhead. The Spirit is the life that unites Father and Son. The Spirit plays the same role in the church. When the Spirit is operating in a group of people, He unites them in love. Therefore, a sure evidence of the Holy Spirit working in a group is Love and Unity. Not signs and wonders (those are seasonal and can be counterfeited).
17. The Spirit is our guarantee and deposit of the future resurrection (2 Cor. 1:22; 2 Cor. 5:5).
18. The Spirit seals us unto the day of redemption (Eph. 1:13; 4:30).
19. The Spirit sets us free from the law of sin and death (Rom. 8:2).
20. The Spirit quickens our mortal bodies (Rom. 8:11).
21. The Spirit reveals the deep things of God to us (1 Cor. 2:10).
22. The Spirit reveals what has been given to us from God (1 Cor. 2:12).
23. The Spirit dwells in us (Rom. 8:9; 1 Cor. 3:16; 2 Tim. 1:14; John 14:17).
24. The Spirit speaks to, in, and through us (1 Cor. 12:3; 1 Tim. 4:1; Rev. 2:11; Heb 3:7; Matt. 10:20; Acts 2:4; 8:29; 10:19; 11:12, 28; 13:2; 16:6,7; 21:4,11).
25. The Spirit is the agent by which we are baptized into the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13).
26. The Spirit brings liberty (2 Cor. 3:17).
27. The Spirit transforms us into the image of Christ (2 Cor. 3:18).
28. The Spirit cries in our hearts, "Abba, Father" (Gal. 4:6).
29. The Spirit enables us to wait (Gal. 5:5).
30. The Spirit supplies us with Christ (Phil. 1:19, KJV).
31. The Spirit grants everlasting life (Gal. 6:8).
32. The Spirit gives us access to God the Father (Eph. 2:18).
33. The Spirit makes us (corporately) God's habitation (Eph. 2:22).
34. The Spirit reveals the mystery of God to us (Eph. 3:5).
35. The Spirit strengthens our spirits (Eph. 3:16).
36. The Spirit enables us to obey the truth (1 Pet. 1:22).
37. The Spirit enables us to know that Jesus abides in us (1 John 3:24; 4:13).
38. The Spirit confesses that Jesus came in the flesh (1 John 4:2).
39. The Spirit says "Come, Lord Jesus" along with the bride (Rev. 22:17).
40. The Spirit dispenses God's love into our hearts (Rom. 5:5).
41. The Spirit bears witness to the truth in our conscience (Rom. 9:1).
42. The Spirit teaches us (1 Cor. 2:13; John 14:26).
43. The Spirit gives us joy (1 Thess. 1:6).
44. The Spirit enables some to preach the gospel (1 Pet. 1:12).
45. The Spirit moves us (2 Pet. 1:21).
46. The Spirit knows the things of God (1 Cor. 2:11).
47. The Spirit casts out demons (Matt. 12:28).
48. The Spirit brings things to our remembrance (John 14:26).
49. The Spirit comforts us (Acts 9:31).
50. The Spirit makes some overseers in the church and sends some out to the work of church planting [through the body] (Acts 20:28; 13:2).

Summary: The Holy Spirit unites us to Jesus Christ and to His body. The Spirit reveals Christ to us, gives us His life, and makes Christ alive in us. The Spirit takes the experiences of Jesus . . . His incarnation, ministry, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension . . . and brings them into our own experience. Because of the Holy Spirit, the history of Jesus Christ becomes our story and experience (see Jesus Manifesto for details). Unfortunately, some movements have become known for their excesses in regard to the Holy Spirit's work. See Revise Us Again for details on this point.

9 Serious Questions You Should Ask Before Getting Married

9 Serious Questions You Should Ask Before Getting Married
Marriage is supposed to be heavenly, but it can end up being hell on Earth if you (1) marry the wrong person or (2) find out after you're married that your spouse was hiding some dark secrets. Just ask my friend "Carlos," who was married for a year before he learned that his wife owed thousands of dollars in credit-card debt. The tension caused by a shopping addiction—and her ongoing deception—led to divorce.

Anyone who's been through a job interview knows employers try to identify potential problems by asking lots of questions before they hire anyone. Some companies take months to recruit high-level employees because they know one wrong hiring decision can cost millions of dollars. So why wouldn't you be even more careful before you tie the knot with the person you plan to spend the rest of your life with?

I'm amazed by how many Christian couples don't use wisdom when choosing a mate or neglect to get premarital counseling before they walk down the aisle together. Any counselor will tell you that couples face major difficulties if they don't honestly communicate at the beginning of their relationship and put all their cards on the table. You have to ask questions!

If you are a believer in Christ and you want a marriage that honors God, you should make sure you ask these questions before the Big Day.

1. How did your partner come to know Jesus personally? It's a sad fact that some people pretend to be Christians. They can sing the choruses and mimic the preacher, but their private lives are a different story. They are posers—and some of them are actually attending church to find a cute girl or guy. Don't fall for a fake. You need a spouse who has a genuine relationship with God.
2. Has your partner been growing spiritually? It's also a sad fact that many Christians today remain spiritual babies even though they've been in church for years. If you want a strong marriage, don't pursue a person who has no spiritual spark. My wife is beautiful, but what attracted me to her was her passion for God. If your partner has no interest in discipleship, worship, prayer or studying God's Word, don't assume they will develop spiritual maturity later.

3. What kind of family life did your partner have? We all come from different backgrounds. Some people grow up in single-parent families, others are raised in alcoholic homes, and others experienced abuse. God can help us overcome any handicaps caused by family dysfunction. But you need to know what you are dealing with before you vow to love your partner "in sickness and in health." You can't carry your partner's burdens or experience deep intimacy unless you share your pain with each other.

4. What is your partner's dating and marriage history? It's true that when we come to know Christ "the old things passed away" (2 Cor. 5:17). But that doesn't mean you can lie about your past. Your potential spouse needs to know if you have been married before, if you have kids living in another city, or if you are obligated to make alimony payments.

5. Does your partner have a criminal record? Employers ask this question—and they sometimes turn away prospective employees who have been sentenced for crimes. You don't want to wait until your wedding night to learn that your husband is wearing a tattoo on his back that he got in prison. And you should rethink your marriage plans if you learn your boyfriend was convicted of assault.

6. Does your partner struggle with addictions? Many marriages end in divorce because one partner has self-destructive habits. The addict may be hooked on alcohol, drugs, porn or gambling—and a churchgoer with these habits may have learned to hide their behavior. If you see the warning signs of addiction, don't be fooled into thinking it's no big deal. You may need to postpone the wedding.

7. Does your partner have debts or a questionable credit history? The financial side of marriage is challenging enough without the extra stress of debt. Wise couples will met with a pastor or mentor before the wedding to discuss a reasonable budget. If you find out your partner owes the equivalent of a year's salary because of out-of-control spending, you should reconsider this relationship.

8. Has your partner received prayer ministry or counseling for his or her failures, hurts and traumas? God's grace is bigger than any sin. The Holy Spirit can deliver a person from the shame of adultery, the pain of divorce or the bondage of resentment. But these things don't just drop off by themselves; people need prayer and counseling to get free from their past. You should insist that your partner get the help he or she needs.

9. Do you and your partner agree about family plans? I know a couple who married without talking about this issue. The man wanted lots of kids; the wife didn't want any. This will not work! Amos 3:3 says: "Do two people walk hand in hand
if they aren't going to the same place?" (The Message). Find a partner who shares your desires and goals.

If you want a marriage that stands through life's storms, you need a partner who is wholly committed to Jesus and on the path to healing. Your spouse won't be perfect, but please don't settle for less than God's best for you.

PROPER PRIORITIES- MARRIAGE TODAY

PROPER PRIOTIES- MARRIAGE TODAY

All of us have 24 hours in a day. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a man or a woman, whether you’re rich or poor. We all have the same amount of time.

Your life is defined by how you choose to spend that time—between work, church, family, hobbies, and everything else. Time evaporates quickly, and that’s why we have to make choices.

It’s easy to say what our priorities are, but the most accurate way to determine our priorities isn’t based on our words, but on how we live.

When God created marriage, he gave a foundational rule for relationships between a husband and wife: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24).

You have a one hundred percent chance of success in marriage if you follow God’s plan. He created a foundation to ensure every marriage could succeed, and it’s not complicated. It’s all about priorities.

When the Bible says we leave our father and mother, it’s really saying that we reprioritize our lives. The moment you get married, you “cleave” to your spouse. Your spouse comes first. That’s the law of priority.

It’s reflected in natural jealousy. In our culture, we often view jealousy as a negative thing, but there is a legitimate jealousy that God puts inside us related to marriage. The Bible says God is jealous when we allow something in our lives to take His place. In marriage, spouses have the same type of jealousy.

In marriage, a husband or wife will naturally become jealous when something begins to replace them in their spouse’s life.

That’s why the satisfaction level of marriage often drops when children enter the picture. At this point, a woman typically turns her attention to the kids while the husband turns his attention to his career.

The priority of the marriage is lost. The husband and wife stop focusing attention on each other. For a successful marriage, a husband and wife must find a way to avoid this trap by maintaining the right priorities.

The only way to do this is by sacrifice. Sometimes we have to give up certain interests—golf, shopping, longer days at work—for the good of our marriage. Why? Because time is the essential commodity of relationships. For a healthy marriage, we have to take time away from self-focused pursuits and devote it to our spouse.

Once you’ve established priorities, you must protect them. Work is a good thing. Children are good. Church is good. But the things that destroy marriage aren’t often bad things, but good things done out of priority. This includes working too much or focusing too much on the kids—to the detriment of your marriage.

How will your kids succeed if your marriage doesn’t show them how?

Marriage only works when it is in first place. That’s a challenge, but the law of priority is one God set at the very beginning. If your spouse has complained about the time you spend at work, or with your friends, or playing golf, or on Facebook, then you may be violating God’s law of priority.

If so, you need to make changes. You need to sacrifice and rearrange your priorities. That’s the only way marriage works.

Mesut Özil unlikely to play again this year

Mesut Özil has been ruled out for between ten and 12 weeks with a partial knee ligament tear which he suffered during Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea on Sunday.

The Germany midfielder played on through the pain to complete the 90 minutes and he reported the problem to Arsenal’s medical staff after the game. It did not seem overly serious at the time.

Özil travelled to Germany on Tuesday to link up with his national team ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifiers against Poland and the Republic of Ireland, with Arsenal having informed the German Federation [DFB] about the injury. The club told the Germans to exercise caution and check on the problem.

Accordingly, Özil was sent for a scan in Munich on Wednesday and the severity of the injury became clear. The DFB announced that he had suffered a “partial lateral ligament tear in the left knee” and would be “out for 10-12 weeks.”

Özil will now return to London in order for Arsenal’s medics to examine him fully and determine the best course of action in terms of his rehabilitation. Özil has a close relationship with Dr Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, the Germany doctor and, in the past, he has liked to be treated by him.

The DFB’s head of communications, Jens Grittner, had made it clear that Ozil had travelled with the problem and the organisation reinforced the point in their statement. “Özil complained about pain in his left knee when he arrived in Frankfurt on Tuesday,” they said.

Özil, who missed six weeks towards the end of last season with a hamstring injury before recovering to play his part in Germany’s World Cup triumph, joins a lengthy injury list at Arsenal.

Danny Welbeck became the third Arsenal player to score a Champions League hat-trick last night

Danny Welbeck helped Arsenal get back on track with his three goals against galatasaray on wedsday.

He has now become the third Arsenal player to score three goal in a Champions League game, after Thierry Henry and Nicklas Bendtner

Arsenal’s record goalscorer Thierry Henry was the first man to score three goals for the club since the Champions League was revamped in 1992. The Frenchman scored all three goals in the 3-1 victory over Roma in November 2002, and it took another eight years until a fellow-Gunner matched his feat.

The man was none other than Nicklas Bendtner, the newly nicknamed ‘Wolf of Wolfsburg’ after he joined the German club in the summer. The Danish striker notched three goals to help Arsenal overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit to Porto as they recorded a 5-0 victory at home to reach the quarter-finals.

Welbeck’s remarkable showing in front of goal saw him score three goals from four shot on target, and despite his reputation for being inconsistent in front of goal, the England international has notched six goals in six matches.

Welbeck celebrates his hat-trick against Galatasaray Welbeck celebrates his hat-trick against Galatasaray The big question now is whether Welbeck will follow the path of Henry, or Bendtner. Henry left the club in 2007 as he moved to Barcelona before joining MLS side New York Red Bulls. He returned to the Gunners on a short-term loan spell in January in 2012,where he scored his 228th and final goal for the North London club in 376 appearances.

Alternatively, Bendtner left Arsenal after his contract expired this year and endured a period of time where no-one appeared to be interested in his services. Wolfsburg finally decided to move for the free agent, who failed to fulfil his potential at the Emirates having come through their youth ranks.

He departed having notched 47 goals in 168 appearances – only half of which came in the Premier league – and he will not be too fondly remembered at the Emirates given his high wage and low return during his 10 year stay at the club.

Pastor Oritsejafor speaks on $9.3m arms deal

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, yesterday for the first time spoke on the controversial $9.3m cash allegedly smuggled into South Africa by two Nigerians and an Israeli using his private jet. The money which has been confiscated by a South African court was meant for the purchase of arms for the Nigerian Intelligence Services. This is just as the #BringBackOurGirls# campaign group, has said it will soon drag the CAN president and the Federal Government to court over the money.
Following the use of his aircraft to convey the money which was not declared in South Africa until immigration officials discovered it, the CAN president was linked to the arms deal with critics condemning his role in the arms deal.

Explaining his own side of the story yesterday, at an emergency meeting of the expanded National Executive Council, NEC, of CAN in Abuja, Pastor Oritsejafor denied any involvement or knowledge of the deal to buy arms in South Africa, noting that enemies of Christians were fuelling the division of CAN.
He said: “The media has been awash in the past few days about an unfortunate incident involving the movement of funds from Nigeria to South Africa. In the unfortunate news reports, attempts have been made to link me directly with the transaction. So far I have refrained from making any direct public statement pending the time that I would have briefed the leaders of the church and explained my position on the issues to them.
“I believe that the primary institution that I owe any explanation to is the church. Permit me to thank everyone who stood by me these past days by ways of prayers, as well as strongly defending me even though I have not undertaken any public defence of myself.
“I am particularly appreciative of the valuable support of the Catholic Church in refuting a distorted news item by mischievous elements in the media. I wish to assure you that I will not do anything to tarnish the image of Jesus Christ or compromise the divine standard of the Church.
The aircraft is mine — CAN president
“At the risk of being seen to be defending myself, I wish to confirm to the distinguished leaders of the church that the Bombardier Challenger 601 aircraft in question is mine.
“The aircraft was presented to me as a gift by members of our congregation and ministry partners world wide at the 40th anniversary of my call into the ministry. May I be permitted to stress that the aircraft was not given to me by the President of Nigeria, neither was it a settlement for any political favour or patronage.
“With the benefit of hindsight, the President of the country was a guest in our church during the anniversary celebration when the Jet was presented to me and this has been construed to imply that it was a gift from the President of the country.
“The President of Nigeria has nothing to do with the gift of the aircraft. By the way, I still wonder why all those saying this, still cannot come out to show proof so that the matter can be put to rest once and for all. Let me say that this might be an issue of the court in the near future.
“In order to ameliorate the cost of maintenance of the aircraft, I sought and got permit to allow the aircraft fly in and out of Nigeria.
“Based on this, I leased the aircraft on August 2, 2014 to a company to run it. It was the leasee that entered into an agreement with the people who carried out the transfer of funds. Having leased the aircraft to the Green Coast Produce Company Limited, any transaction undertaken with the aircraft can no longer be attached to me.
War against the Church
“In as much as I am shocked and distressed by the incident, I wish to appeal to Christians in Nigeria to remember that a war has been waged against the Nigerian Church. This war is being fought on many fronts and this unfortunate incident is another dimension in the assault against the Church.
“It is clear that those who manipulated this conspiracy desire to create a schism in the Church. The media hype and the deliberate distortion of information that followed it confirmed that forces that desperately desire to cause division and disunity in the Church are at work. Even the devil knows that a house that is divided cannot stand.
“As Christians, we need unity in the Church now more than ever. We are witnessing inhuman attacks by religious extremists against Christians in the northern part of the country while Christian infrastructure is being destroyed in hundreds.
“If we permit the enemy to divide us, our chances of corporate survival shall be severely threatened.
“Distinguished leaders of the Church, please permit me to state clearly before God and before all of you here present today, I am not a party to the movement of $9.3 million from Nigeria to South Africa to purchase arms and ammunition. I am not part of the deal. I know nothing about it.
“Let me make a passionate appeal to our heads of blocks, heads of denominations and Christian leaders at different levels and spheres of influence to please use your good offices to caution and control your subordinates and followers from making public statements that will further polarise the Church and strengthen the arms of the enemies of the church.
“If I offend you or you offend me, instead of talking to media, let us talk to each other within the house of God.”

Skynews report that a Russian billionaire is planning to build a high-tech hospital in the shape of a giant sailing boat.

The billionaire, Vasily Klyukin, said the White Sails Hospital and Spa in Tunisia would be "the most pleasant hospital in the world".

He said he was inspired to build a hospital after undergoing health tests for an upcoming trip to space.
"I will fly into space next year. My health condition has to be checked every six months," Mr Klyukin, who made his fortune from co-founding Sovcombank, one of Russia's biggest banks, said.

"That is why I know this feeling very well, every time I'm approaching the white building of the clinic, I don't feel any joy.

"But I would like to show you the hospital, where there is no room for fear. And so that my son could ask about this hospital: 'Daddy, when will we visit the ship again?''

The complex will be built in the Tunisia Economic City in Enfidha - which has a budget of €50bn (£39bn). The hospital will be one of the first buildings constructed and contain cutting-edge medical equipment.

Australia commits N8.7 million to tackle Ebola outbreak in Nigeria

Towards tacking the deadly outbreak, the government yesterday disclosed in Abuja that the Australian Government says it has contributed ₦ 8.7 million to the Nigeria Ebola Virus Emergency Appeal launched by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

A statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Australian High Commission in Abuja, said the donation would assist in purchasing vital personal protection equipment for health workers combating the deadly disease.
The Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Jonathan Richardson, was quoted as saying that the funds would be used to improve training in epidemic control techniques for Red Cross volunteers.

Richardson also said it would help to spread good messages on health education and hygiene promotion across the country.
The statement by the High Commission explained that the funds came from the country’s Direct Aid Programme, which had already committed seven million dollars to tackle the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

The Nigeria Ebola Virus Emergency Appeal was launched by the IFRC on Aug. 11, to help deal with the growing threat of Ebola to Nigeria.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the majority of Australia’s contribution to prevent the spread of Ebola has been through the World Health Organisation (WHO), in addition to the 17.5 million dollars it provides annually to support the WHO’s global health activities. (NAN)

Samir Nasri not fit to play Hull City game

Injury concern for Pellegrini, has his side battles Hull in their pursuit to retain the Premier legue.

Samir Nasri will miss Manchester City’s trip to Hull City on Saturday because of a groin injury, with Stevan Jovetic and Fernando also still unavailable due to their respective problems. Manuel Pellegrini takes his team to Hull having yet to win a league match in September, with the 3-1 defeat of Liverpool on 26 August the champions’ previous victory.

Of the injured trio – Jovetic has a hamstring injury, Fernando a hurt pelvis – the manager said: “Jovetic and Fernando are out. They will be ready next week. Nasri also has a groin problem. Agüero and Silva are OK.”

The last two missed Wednesday evening’s 7-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup and Pellegrini added that Saturday will be a tougher test.“I think that Hull is a difficult team playing well,” he said. “Last year, Vincent Kompany was sent off in the first 10 minutes, we played really well and won. I hope this year we can do it in the same way but we am sure we are going find a very tough team in their home because they always play very strong, especially in aerial duels.”

Pellegrini said the Sheffield Wednesday game had proved very useful. “We were not scoring too many goals here at home. In the last four games, we didn’t win our games. We were not playing bad but we did not win so it was important to win in the way we did on Wednesday and I hope this can continue in the future, especially against Hull because in the Premier League we cannot drop more points.”

Pellegrini believes City are now beginning to find their true form. “I think we are starting. For all the team it is good not to drop points near the beginning because finally you are going to win or lose the Premier League by just one point. But for the moment, I think we are not worried.”
